Common Knowledge

Countless millions of humans, elves, dwarves, halflings, and other sentient beings call Adrinand home. On the Storm Coast, humans predominate, but there are sizable populations of elves, dwarves and other races.

Dragonborn (also known as Strixiki in Draconic; or Vayemniri, “Ash-Marked Ones”, in Tymantheran Draconic) are a race of draconic creatures native to Adrinand’s long sundered twin world, X’Tedi. Most dragonborn on Adrinand dwell in the Western nation of Tymanther, a realm ripped from X’Tedi during the Cataclysm.

Dwarves, sometimes called the Stout Folk, are common throughout many parts of Adrinand. Dwarves are a tough, tradition-abiding folk known for their strong martial traditions and beautiful craftsmanship.

Elves, sometimes called the Fair Folk, are a long-lived race found most commonly in forests, shrublands, and other wildernesses. Almost all elves worship the Seldarine, otherwise known as elven pantheon and the elves are generally, though not always, good in nature.

Gnomes, or the Forgotten Folk as they are sometimes known, are small fey humanoids known for their eccentric sense of humour, inquisitiveness and engineering prowess. Having had few overt influences on the world’s history but many small and unseen ones, gnomes are often overlooked by the powers that be despite their craftiness and affinity for illusion magic

Half-elves are born through the union of an elf and a human. Whether a half-elf is raised by their human parent or their elven parent, they often feel isolated and alone. They mature quickly when raised by elves (who think they look like humans) and slowly by human standards (who think they look like elves), making them feel like an outsider in either place.

Halflings, also known as Hin amongst thrmselves, or the Good Folk amongst other races, are humanoid creatures similar in shape to humans, who halflings call the “Big Folk,” but around half their size. Halflings get along well with most of the other races and are known for their curiosity and tendency to collect things.

Half-orcs are humanoids born of both human and orc ancestry by a multitude of means. Combining the physical power of their orcish ancestors with the agility of their humans ones, half-orcs can be formidable individuals. Though often shunned in both human and orcish society, half-orcs have proven themselves from time to time as worthy heroes and dangerous villains.

Humans in Adrinand are widespread, can be found in most regions and, in general, are fierce and disagreeable, which can sometimes lead certain other races to view them with contempt. They are renowned for their diversity and ambition, excelling in a wide variety of arenas.

Tieflings are derived from human bloodlines that have been infused with the touch of Asmodeus, the Prince of the Nine Hells, who struck a pact with their ancestors generations ago during the Cataclysm. Tieflings are known for their cunning and personal allure, which makes them excellent deceivers as well as inspiring leaders when prejudices are laid aside.

More Information on other races of Adrinand will be added as our intrepid scholars compile their notes and submit articles to the Grand Editor of the Traveller’s Guide to Andrinand.
